Oppressor

Oppressor is a Halo 5 1v1 - 2v2 with the design goal of emphasizing the "High-ground". I designed the map in a way that always allows the player to control their verticality, making it so no matter the spawn the player gets they are able to either keep their high-ground or ascend quickly without any hassle. I was inspired when rewatching Star Wars Episode 1, Maul and Obi-Wan having the high-ground dynamic, and I wanted to capture that for Halo 5, a relatively fast paced and vertical game. So I designed the map to incorporate ledges and railings that can seem cheeky at times, but allows you to catch your opponent off guard and vice versa.

I wanted to emphasize this changing dynamic more too by giving unique functionality to the lowest points on the map, so the lowest area on the map gets to dynamically hovering asteroids that the player can hop on and use to their advantage in fights, alongside some lower ledges that can save the player in middle and other locations where they can reenact that dynamic I wanted to emphasize by faking a fall to their death to then rapidly ascend and take out their opponent.

For this Project I was the Level Designer, Scripter, and Environment Artist.
